Personal life

Holliday has had two marriages. They married in March 1991, less than two months after meeting keyboardist Billy Meadows in a nightclub where she was performing. “He had a wonderful sense of humor and he constantly made me laugh,” Holliday recalls of her first spouse. “I’d been feeling terrible for so long that I desired to chuckle.” However, just nine months later, in December 1991, they divorced; the marriage, according to Holliday, “Eventually ran out of steam. ” “We simply didn’t know each other well enough,” she remarked of Meadows.

Holliday was saddened, however, when her second marriage failed in 1994, only four months after her mother died of cancer. “It was as though I were seeing two simultaneous deaths,” she recalled. “The anguish was palpable.”

Holliday earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University.
