The premiere date for Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivii was revealed today, riding the theatrical release wave initiated by Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom.
The biographical play based on the late J Jayalalithaa’s life will be released in theatres around the world on September 10, 2021.
Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh produced Vijay’s directorial debut.
ZEE Studios is presenting the much-anticipated film.
Ranaut announced the arrival of her project with a new poster on her Instagram account on Monday.
The caption was as follows: “The story of this iconic personality deserves to be witnessed only on the BIG SCREEN! Pave way, for #Thalaivii as she is all set to make a superstar entry into the world of cinema, yet again, a place where she has always belonged! (sic)”
Arvind Swami, who plays ex-Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) MG Ramachandran (MGR) in the biographical drama, shared the news on social media as well.
The new poster depicts three photographs from the former Tamil Nadu chief minister’s time as a film star.
According to the text on the poster, “Jaya’s journey. Cinema se CM tak (From cinema to CM).”
Previously, the Tamil version of the film received a ‘U’ certificate.
KV Vijayendra Prasad wrote the screenplay for the multilingual film.
The film received a “U” rating for its Tamil release in June.
Ranaut had shared the news, remarking that the certification meant that one of her projects will now be able to engage the entire family at the same time.
Notably, after several delays, the film was scheduled to be released in theatres on April 23 of this year.
Following the theatrical release, a Hindi version may be available on Netflix
In addition to Ranaut and Swami, Bhagyashree, Nassar, and Madhu play important roles.
Previously, it was rumored that producers had gotten excellent offers from OTT platforms, but they chose hall release.
According to reports, the Hindi version of Thalaivii will be released on Netflix after its theatrical run, while Amazon Prime Video has acquired the rights to the other versions.
More productions are likely to re-trust theatrical launches.
