Congress Mahila Morcha Chief Sushmita Dev quits party, may join TMC

Congress Mahila Morcha chief Sushmita Dev has resigned from the party. In a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, she wrote that she is resigning from the primary membership of the party but has not given the reason.

Dev was reportedly angry with the party for quite some time now. She had left the party midway during the Assam elections.

Sushmita Dev, who was the chief of the All India Mahila Congress, first left the party’s WhatsApp group and then wrote the former Congress leader in her bio on Twitter.

Sushmita Dev to join Trinamool Congress

Sushmita Dev, who has been associated with the Congress for a long time, is the daughter of late veteran Congress leader Santosh Mohan Dev and became an MP in 2014 after winning from Silchar for the first time. His mother has also been an MLA.

Speculations are rife that Sushmita Dev may take over the Trinamool Congress. However, this has not been confirmed so far and no such indications have been given by Dev.

Congress MP suggests Sushmita to reconsider decision

Congress MP from Assam Ripun Bora said Sushmita Dev was a dedicated Congress leader and never thought she would take such a decision. Bora has demanded Dev to reconsider the decision and withdraw his resignation.

Assam BJP General Secretary Dr. Rajdeep Roy said Sushmita Dev is not joining the BJP. According to him, Dev is not even in touch with the top leaders of the party.

Sibal says Congress is moving ahead with eyes closed

Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal has reacted to Sushmita Dev’s resignation from the party. Referring to Dev’s resignation, he said that young leaders are leaving the Congress and therefore senior leaders are held responsible. The Congress is moving forward with its eyes closed.

In the last few years, several young leaders including Priyanka Chaturvedi, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Jitin Prasada have left the Congress and joined Shiv Sena and BJP parties.
